All of us have those smells that remind of our childhood or bring back wonderful memories. Mine is the smell of sofrito sautéing in olive oil. This smell reminds me of my grandmother’s house. For those of you who don’t know what sofrito is, it is a mixture of onion, green peppers, garlic, and tomato, and it is the base of many Cuban dishes, much like a mirepoix is to French cuisine.
